To reinforce an existing structure that is subsiding or erect a new building, deep foundations are required.
This involves adding an element to the land that will essentially work on side friction to reinforce its load-bearing capacity. The pile technique is currently the most widely used deep foundations method worldwide.
There are different types of piles, depending on soil characteristics and the intended purpose.
The right kind of pile is determined based on:
- the type of ground (homogeneous, heterogeneous, unstable, cohesive, etc.)
- the anchor zone
- the presence or absence of water
- the environment
